Cory Environmental appoints c-trace for pay-by-weight solution.
c-trace has been appointed by the one of the UK's leading waste management and energy recovery firms Cory Environmental to provide a dynamic bin weighing system and an associated radio frequency identification (RFID) bin-tagging programme for their commercial waste division in Essex and London.
The entire system is being delivered by c-trace who not only developed, provided and fitted all the vehicle hardware and software but also provided all the parts and equipment needed for tagging bins.
The first vehicle to be fitted is already operating and the bin-chipping programme is well under way and expected to be completed by the end of September 2014.
The new system enables Cory Environmental to provide transparent and clear billing for their trade waste customers on utilising the weight data instead of the traditional pay-by-volume arrangement. This rewards and encourages recycling while enabling them to charge appropriately for the disposal of heavier bins.
The dynamic weighing process means bins are very accurately weighed in a split-second while they are being hoisted, so the operation is not slowed down. The software on board the vehicle records the collection time, GPS position and ID of each bin and the net weight of material collected from it.
The information is then automatically transmitted via the mobile phone network (GPRS) to the c-trace servers and securely transmitted to back office systems where it is seamlessly converted into weight data reports. Importantly, the system is fully certified to ensure the weight recorded is accurate and the system is built to European security standards to ensure data cannot be tampered with.
"Accurate and transparent disposal costs are a key to any profitable commercial waste operation which this system produces and since we dispose of waste by weight it makes sense to collect it on the same basis," said c-trace's UK Sales Director Ian Martin.
Cory Environmental is one of the first in the UK to offer this certified weighing solution and we're delighted that they've chosen us to provide the whole system for them from beginning to end.
We tailored our software and hardware to meet Cory's specific needs. This included designing and fitting a bin-lift modification that bolts onto the bin-lift frame to ensure the weighing and identification systems are always fitted correctly and the load cells work properly.
"c-trace only entered the UK market in 2012 and Cory Environmental is our biggest customer to date, though we have fitted more than 2,000 vehicles across Europe, the Middle East and Australia and we've rolled out RFID-chipped bins across more than 250 municipalities in Germany alone."
A spokesman for Cory Environmental said: "By using the c- trace Solution we are able to reward and encourages recycling to our customers while enabling a fair and transparent charge for the disposal of heavier bins to our customers"
